Below is the privacy policy of Forecast the Facts. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from our email list, you may do so here. You can read Friends of the Earth Action's privacy policy here.

Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously. We understand that your personal information is just that — yours. We will never give it to any entity or organization without your consent.

For petitions, open letters, or similar public communications that you’ve signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress, the President, or other public officials on your behalf.

Contact

If you have any questions about this privacy policy or our treatment of your personal data, please contact: info@climatesilence.org

This website http://climatesilence.org is operated by Citizen Engagement Laboratory.

Please review this privacy policy periodically because we modify it from time to time. This privacy policy was last revised on August 1, 2011. Each time you visit this Site or provide us with information through the Site, by doing so you are accepting practices described in the privacy policy in effect at that time.

Personal Information

We do not share the information you’ve given us with unaffiliated groups without your explicit permission. We may share some of your personal information with the following affiliated groups:

Affiliated Third Parties – for example, our database administrators – for the sole purpose of helping us do our work. These groups do not share your personal information or use it for any purpose other than as instructed by us.

Partner Organizations

Under some circumstances we will partner with other organizations to run a joint campaign. These instances will be clearly indicated (usually by a co-branded petition page) and you will be given the opportunity to opt-in to both of these email lists. This will only occur with your explicit permission and you will also be able to opt-out of either list at any time.

Petitions and Surveys

For petitions and surveys you’ve signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information—for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to public officials and other targets, or to the press. We may also publish your name and/or comments in an action stream directly below signed petitions. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to the designated target as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city and state available to the press and public online.

Financial Donations

If you choose to make a donation to Forecast the Facts, your credit card information will be used only for this transaction through our secure online payment system. Forecast the Facts does not retain credit card information and uses bank-standard encryption to protect your transaction.

Children

Climate Silence does not solicit personally identifying information from children. Visitors who are under 13 years of age should ask their parent or legal guardian for assistance when using the Site and should not submit any personally identifying information to the Site. For example, visitors under 13 years of age should not make donations or use the Climate Silence email tool.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that the Site can send to your browser for storage on your computer’s hard drive. They make your use of the Site easier by saving your status and preferences and are refreshed every time you visit. We may use session cookies when you visit our website while your browser is open, or while you are logged into the Site. To facilitate our registration and login functions, we may use cookies to recognize when you return to the Site. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies, but you may be able to change the settings to refuse cookies or to be alerted when cookies are being sent.

Data Tracking

In order to better serve our members, we use cookies and periodically analyze web logs. We may collect IP addresses to better understand where our traffic is coming from, and to provide customized services to members. We may also use third-party services such as Google Analytics. (Google’s privacy policy is available at: http://www.google.com/privacy/.) This helps us understand traffic patterns and know if there are problems with our website. We may also use embedded images in emails to track open rates for our mailings, so that we can tell which mailings appeal most to Forecast the Facts members.

URLs contained in emails may contain an ID that enables us to correctly identify the person who takes an action using a web page. We use these URLs to simplify the process of signing petitions and filling out surveys. We may occasionally present a shortened URL that references a longer URL which contains an ID—we do this to simplify the display, to prevent links from becoming broken when copied, and to ensure compatibility with email programs which do not handle long URLs. When a shortened URL is displayed in an email, you will see the full URL in the browser’s address bar when you access the page.
